Great Falls National Park

Great Falls Park is an 800 acre National Park situated along the Potomac River and one of the most scenic landmarks in the DC area. There are three accessible overlooks to the falls that offer spectacular views from several observation areas. The Falls flow over a terrain of jagged, steep rocks through the narrow Mather Gorge creating natural 20 foot cascading waterfalls – the steepest of any river in Eastern America.

  • What is there to do at the park?

    Great Falls Parks offers a variety of things to do throughout the year for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Enjoy hiking along the cliff tops of Mather Gorge, cycling the trails of Old Carriage Road, horseback riding on Mine Run, or picnicking in the open green space. For the youngsters, check out the Junior Ranger Program designed to for children ages 5 and up.
  • Can I take the Metro to the park?

    There is public transportation access to Great Falls Park. However the park is only 5 miles from the Greensboro and Spring Hill Metro stations on the Silver Line. Cabs are available at these stations to take visitors to the park.
